Another title for the PUMAFam!

Our PUMA team, Liga Deportiva Universitaria de Quito, won their second CONMEBOL Sudamericana Cup in the club’s history this Saturday, denying the title to the Brazilian team, Fortaleza.

The championship’s conclusion exceeded expectations in Maldonado, Uruguay. A goalless first half, marked by fouls from both teams, set the stage for an intense match that culminated in a thrilling penalty shootout.

In minute 48 of the second half, the Brazilian team set the scoreboard 1-0. Nevertheless, 9 minutes later, our PUMA team equalized the match with a left-footed goal. Fortaleza had opportunities at the end of the second half, but Liga de Quito’s claws endured and took the game to the extra time.

The players’ tiredness was a significant obstacle to changing the score, so the championship dispute had to conclude in a thrilling penalty shootout. Only the bravery of the Ecuadorian team’s goalkeeper allowed them to save the penalty that brought the Cup to the PUMA´s, winning 3-4.
