June 14, 2023The PUMA team celebrates its first title as world champion in the U-20 category, after defeating Italy 1-0! The historic match took place on Sunday, June 11, at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium in La Plata, Argentina. A well-deserved victory that fills Latin America with hope 🩵🎉!
The Uruguayan team took control of the match during the first half, but failed to score due to the good defense of their European opponent, going into the second half with a tied 0-0 score. With only 5 minutes left in the game, the brave representatives of La Celeste managed to turn the game around against Italy’s U-20 national team. A corner kick and a series of rebounds in the penalty area culminated in a header into the back of the net that will never be forgotten in whole Uruguay.
The Uruguayan U-20 national team had played two wold cup finals before; Malaysia in 1997 and Turkey in 2013, where they had to settle for the silver medal. Third time`s a charm, as this year, they celebrate their first world cup gold medal victory!
