How to Style Your Sneakers this Winter

Outfit ideas to keep your sneakers in the rotation as the temperatures drop.
November 6, 2026
Although the unofficial dress code of the colder months tends to favour boots, your sneakers don’t deserve to be overlooked. This winter, fashion trends lean toward textures and technical details, and the sneaker is a styling tool, not just a season-specific piece. In this spirit, we’ve put together a playbook and several sneaker-forward outfit ideas to help rewrite the rules this winter.

Let the Textures Do the Talking

Winter is the moment for tactile layering. Think stacking rich textures and mixing fabrics: chunky knits, brushed wool, perhaps a touch of velvet here and there, and, of course, suede. Play with the palette, incorporating some of the season’s standout colours for relevance.
The Shoe: PUMA Suede is an obvious choice. Its soft matte finish already speaks the language of winter knitwear, so it slots straight into this cosy layered look.

The Outfit: A French terry dress with a knitted sweater combines with a super soft yet glam jacket. A velvet headband and matching leg warmers play with elements in the sneaker to give the look confident cohesion. A modular leather bucket bag adds a final flair of fabric options.

Trail-Ready Commute

Gorpcore is out and about, and has made its way to the metro. This look borrows items designed for the trailhead (activewear, athletic essentials, technical outerwear) and adds some urban attitude with prints and specialized features. It’s practical, comfortable, and looks good even when moving at rush-hour speeds.
The Shoe: PUMA MagMax NITRO™ 2 was built for performance, but is just as useful for dodging cold weather on the way to work.

The Outfit: Insulated and practical, this heavy-duty puffer jacket has a tech-driven aesthetic. Paired with the unique utility details in the slightly oversized cargo trousers and the refined nature of the black knit top, and you’re off to the office.

Snatched Styling

Sometimes the best outfit is a simple one, done just so. This look is all about showcasing the power of basics when it’s the right fit, right colour, and all the right details. Opting for a restrained colour combination and clean lines helps everything else look effortlessly put together.
The Shoes: The OG, the PUMA Speedcat, here in its elevated version: the Wedge. Giving a little extra height and oomph to make even the easiest outfit feel elegant.

The Outfit: A slim tank is your base, with a flared pair of pintuck tights stretching to the ankle and cut to reveal the sneakers, creating one long, clean line for the eyes. Add in a navy T7 track jacket with minimal detailing for a classic athletic addition, and a contoured business casual jacket layered over for added warmth. Finish with a mini fisherman beanie for style and to fight the chill, and a snatched purse to grab and go.

Don’t Dim Your Shine

Grey skies call for a little sparkle. Consider this your permission slip for maximalism: shine, texture and a bright pop of colour, all in the name of beating the winter blues. The trick is to pick a high-quality pair of sneakers to be the main character and build your outfit around it.
The Shoe: PUMA H-Street Luster, with its high-gloss and cracked metallic finish, works both functionally (as a sneaker) and fashionably (as an ideal statement piece).

The Outfit: A T7 balloon skirt and matching slim-fit long-sleeve with cut-out details show a little skin and a lot of attitude. Stay warm with an old-school motorsport drape in a rich red, and finish with a mid-calf cow-print sock for a playful touch between hem and shoe. Add a mini-grap bag in that same audacious red, and you’re set to conquer even the greyest of days.

Winter Sneaker Playbook

Nobody digs chilly toes. Here are some simple tips to keep you warm and looking good all season:
  • Get Chunky: swap thin socks for chunky wool and make them part of the look.

  • Size Up: if you’re eyeing your dream pair of winter sneakers, go up half a size to leave some space for thicker socks without squeezing your toes.

  • Cover Your Ankles: full-length trousers, tights, or leg warmers can help keep the chill out and make the sneaker look more intentional.

  • Add an Insole: a wool or shearling insole can add warmth from the bottom up.

  • Sole-full: also keep in mind that thicker-soled sneakers will provide more insulation against the cold pavement.
  • Cold Weather, Done Right

Winter styling doesn’t require a whole new wardrobe, just some creative outfit ideas and the right pair of sneakers. So, go ahead and lace up.
