New York is defined by the dynamic creatives who live in it. And what better way to celebrate New York culture than to capture it all in a book? PUMA and the multimedia visual artist founder of design studio Newco Studio Practice® Rob Cristofaro joined forces to create “WHO’S WHO?: New York Local Edition”, a guide to definitive creatives who shape New York culture today. The book coincides with the 50th anniversary of PUMA’s first signature shoe in basketball history: PUMA Clyde.

The book features 75 individuals who shape New York music, food, sport, fashion and art. This includes fashion designers Dapper Dan and June Ambrose, up-and-coming artist KidSuper, jeweller Tommy Jewels, rapper Patrick “Wiki” Morales, vintage streetwear, apparel, art, and bookstore LAAMS, and basketball star Walter “Clyde” Frazier. From people behind-the-scenes to familiar faces, “WHO’S WHO” profiles the dynamic people who define New York.

A book preview event was held at LAAMS in New York.

“I’ve acted as a curator within New York’s creative community for over twenty years. We started ALIFE as an incubator for untapped talent in downtown NYC—but quickly. evolved into a platform for creatives around the world. This book serves as a guide to contemporary talent, while honoring that same tenacious spirit we embodied twenty years ago.”

Rob Cristofaro, Newco Studio Practice® Founder

As a definer of New York basketball, the book pays homage to PUMA Clyde and its inspiration, Walter “Clyde” Frazier – former New York Knicks point guard. In 1973, he asked PUMA for a custom made version of the Baskets shoe, which later became a timeless, classic shoe both on and off of the court. This year, PUMA’s Clyde Sneakers turn 50! On top of the book celebrating this milestone, PUMA chose four New York-based collaborators to present their own interpretations of the Clyde Sneaker: Public Housing Skate Team, LAAMS, Tommy Jewels and Extra Butter/Russ&Daughters.
