Finalissima!

A legendary era comes to an end! PUMA athlete Giorgio Chiellini last night played his last match with the Squadra Azzurra. The 37-year-old’s successful career with Italy’s national team came to an end at the 2022 Finalissima. The European champions Italy played against the South American champions Argentina in the third edition of the ‘Cup of Champions’ game between the European Championship and Copa America winners, now known as the Finalissima. For the first time the squad played in the new PUMA 2022 Italy Home kit. The match took place at the iconic Wembley Stadium. What a setting for the last game in the national jersey for our hero. Just a year after the Euro 2020 final win over England, Giorgio seems satisfied that his international duty ends after the Finalissima.

“The thought of being able to play more than 100 games over the course of 18 years, being captain, and lifting an important cup like I did last year at Wembley was the icing on the cake,” said Giorgio before the match.

He will continue playing club football.

He played his last match for Italy in the new PUMA 2022 Italy Home kit. Our aim was to develop a stylish jersey that connects different generations of Italians and pays tribute to the amazing history of Italian football and the passion Italy has for the beautiful game.

“This jersey was the last one I was wearing while representing Italy. I’m proud to have worn Italy’s blue for the last time at Wembley Stadium. This jersey will be forever in my heart,” explains Giorgio.
