Inclusivity & Diversity

June 9, 2023

PUMA celebrates the PRIDE community with a new product line and series of initiatives via its REFORM platform. In doing so, it aims to promote advocacy, education and inclusiveness, ensuring that everyone who wants to play can play, regardless of gender, race, or background.

In support of celebrating and acknowledging the LGBTQ+ community, we styled two new looks incorporating items from the line. They do not explicitly lean feminine or masculine, instead offering the apparel, footwear and accessories as a means of expressing your unique style.

The Shoes

The athletic giant has launched a pair of revamped Puma Suede WAE Pride sneakers, complete with a suede upper, rubber midsole and outsole, branding details and graphics featuring a mosaic pattern that pays tribute to the aesthetic of the 1960s gay liberation movement. Also available are the Leadcat 2.0 WAE Pride Slides which rock a padded strip with a rainbow design.

Outfit #1

The Outfit (s)

The first look confidently sports the DOWNTOWN PRIDE skirt, with its overlapping A-line design and a non-elastic hemp rainbow belt hanging from the waist. Adjustable, it can be made loose or tight depending on how you see fit. Overtop comes the LOVE IS LOVE sleeveless tee, in a matching black for an edgy nonchalance. Then we threw on an organic cotton overshirt to lean into that stylish-yet-minimalistic androgynous final look.

The second style starts out anything but straight edge, with a pair of wavy patchwork jeans up-cycled from second-hand pants. Inspired by the curves and waves we see in nature, this is a statement piece to start us off. Up top, the soft pink of the classic PRIDE T-shirt and Hoodie grabbed our attention. Both apparel items are characterized by a comfy cut, soft sweat fabric and an embroidered rainbow logo, put all together for an effortlessly cool streetwear look.

Outfit #2

The Accessories

The first outfit clutches the practical tote bag from the line with its unmistakable all-over print and thoughtful inner compartments perfect for storing any bits or pieces you may need. Against the flashy pattern, the rest of the accessories are slightly more subtle ─ a black and gold square-frame pair of sunnies, a luxurious braided leather bracelet, and a funky pair of old-school reminiscent knee-high socks, tying the Suedes up to the Skirt.

The second outfit stays super casual, starting off with the reversible bucket hat from the collection, showcasing that same iconic pattern accompanied by the words ‘We are Everywhere’ prominently scrawled across the forehead to celebrate and uplift the community. A silver and baby-blue pair of tinted sunglasses complement the denim, and a watch with a rainbow-woven wristband is the finishing touch.

Committing to advocacy and education, PUMA has partnered with The Trevor Project, a preeminent organization focused on suicide prevention for LGBTQ+ young people. Together they have created the #REFORMTheLockerRoom curriculum, a free online training designed to promote inclusivity and educate coaches, athletic directors and other youth-facing sports leaders about the importance of respecting and celebrating diversity.

Understanding the necessity to foster a safe and inclusive environment PUMA has also joined forces with the support association Christopher Street Day (CSD) Nürnberg e.V. for the fourth time. This alliance seeks to amplify the voices and rights of the queer community.
