PUMA’s NITRO™ Lab LA Unveils the Future of Football Innovation

The Future of Fast Enters Football
June 26, 2026
For five years, NITRO™ has been synonymous with speed in running. From record-breaking performances to game-changing innovations, the technology has earned its place on tracks around the world. This summer, a new journey begins.
At the PUMA NITRO™ Lab in Los Angeles, we pulled back the curtain on the Ultra NITRO™ 7, introducing NITRO™ to football for the very first time. The event brought together athletes, media and creators to experience the latest evolution of performance innovation, all inside a space built to explore what comes next.

The first guests through the doors, however, were not journalists or influencers. Instead, young players from local club LA Breakers got an exclusive preview before anyone else, lacing up the new boot and experiencing the technology firsthand. It was a reminder that the future of football belongs to the next generation as much as the professionals who will wear it on the world stage.

Built for Athletes, Driven by Curiosity

The story behind the Ultra NITRO™ 7 starts long before Los Angeles.
“NITRO™ is built on one obsession: what does the athlete actually need to go faster? Five years of testing, refining, and perfecting NITRO with some of the world’s best runners gave us the answer, and those learnings are now inside the Ultra NITRO™ 7.”
Romain Girard, Vice President of Innovation at PUMA
For Romain, the Lab represents more than a product showcase. “What we’re showing here in LA goes beyond one boot. Every prototype and next-generation concept is driven by intimate conversations with our athletes and understanding what they need before the game demands it. This is where we let the next generation of players see what’s coming before anyone else.”

NITROFOAM™ ELITE sits inside the footbed to deliver responsive energy return with every stride, while the lightweight ULTRAWEAVE upper and SPEEDSYSTEM 2.0 outsole are designed for quick acceleration and sharp changes of direction. The result is a football boot that carries years of innovation from the running category into an entirely new environment.

Inside the NITRO™ Lab LA

Walking through the Lab felt like following the evolution of speed itself.

A timeline traced the journey of NITRO™ from running into football, while displays showcased official match balls from top competitions and the national kits of the 11 PUMA teams competing this summer. In the centre of it all floated the Ultra NITRO™ 7, suspended inside a custom-built hero capsule with its engineering brought to life across towering LED screens.

The Lab also hinted at where PUMA is heading next. Throughout the venue display cases offer a glimpse into tomorrow with concept innovations including the Ultra Vision, Ultra Vision∞, the 3D Atom concept boot and the Cryo Vest- a performance cooling garment designed for elite athletes competing in extreme heat conditions.

Ready for the Biggest Stage

The Ultra NITRO™ 7 won’t stay inside the Lab for long.

Players including Christian Pulisic, Diogo Dalot and Cody Gakpo will wear the boot during this summer’s tournament, bringing the technology into competition for the very first time.

“The Ultra NITRO™ 7 will make its debut on the pitch at the biggest tournament in the world,” says Dominique Gathier, Vice President of Teamsport at PUMA. “With the PUMA NITRO™ Lab, we have created the space to show PUMA’s ambition to bring innovation to football, always with the obsession to help athletes perform at their best.”

He adds that the vision extends beyond footwear. “This includes groundbreaking footwear featuring NITRO™, our new performance ball also featuring NITRO™, and the strongest kit lineup we’ve assembled, all engineered for the biggest stage.”

The future of fast is no longer confined to the track. It has found a new home in football, and Los Angeles was where the journey officially began.
