September 23, 201970,000 square metres (750,000 square feet] of space, 22 kilometres [14 miles] of conveyors, 480 shuttles, 74 million items to be processed each year: once it is finished, PUMA’s new center in the German town of Geiselwind will be a logistics hub of impressive proportions.
This week, PUMA and its partners celebrated the topping-out ceremony for the new building, meaning that the first half of the project has been completed.
In little over half a year since first breaking ground, 350 engineers and specialists managed to complete the building, handing over to Austrian intralogistics specialist TGW, which will install the highly automated distribution system, the beating heart of the center.
“Our customers expect us to react quickly to changing fashion trends, which is why we set ‘Forever Faster’ as our company’s mantra,” said PUMA Chief Financial Officer Michael Lämmermann. “Once it is completed, this center will represent ‘Forever Faster’.”
Apart from its imposing size, the new center is also made to a highly sustainable standard. It will feature large solar-panels, a rainwater utilisation system and, with the help of a local beekeeper, support honey bees on its 14,000 square meter green roof.
