LUIS SUÁREZ DONATES 500 SIGNED FOOTBALLS TO YOUTH TEAMS FOLLOWING HISTORIC 500 GOAL LANDMARK

PUMA athlete Luis Suárez is now member of a very exclusive club. The Uruguay and Atlético de Madrid star has joined the elite group of players to have scored 500 or more goals for club and country. To celebrate Luis’s incredible achievement PUMA has produced a special-edition 500 goal FUTURE Z football boot and donates500 PUMA footballs to youth football teams based in each of the cities where Luis has played during his career.

He reached a special milestone on Sunday by scoring the 500th goal of his illustrious career. The goal was Luis’s 19th league goal of the season. He is only the fifth active player to reach the 500-goal mark. With his 500th goal, he became also the first Uruguayan player to ever reach the landmark.

I wanted to give back to the seven teams that have shaped me as football player. I wanted to give a boost to the youth teams in need of support and equipment to inspire them to follow their dreams. I wanted to pay tribute to the teams, players and fans who have been a part of my journey; Nacional, Groningen, Ajax, Liverpool, Barcelona, Madrid and Uruguay are all very close to my heart, so this was a special tribute to them and their communities.

Donation of 500 PUMA footballs to youth football teams

Each football was gifted with a special note from Luis to inspire the next generation of talent. In addition to his donation, Luis has included a special message to each club in a letter he has shared with his social media followers after scoring his 500^th goal, thanking each team for their support and the impact each team has had on him both on and off the pitch.

500 goal FUTURE Z football boot

To celebrate Luis’s milestone achievement PUMA has also produced a special-edition 500 goal FUTURE Z football boot. The next-gen FUTURE Z features a striking design inspired by Luis’s proud Uruguayan heritage. The heel of the boot features a 500 goal motif with Luis’s famous ‘El Pistolero’ logo displayed across the medial side. Targets are showcased across the upper to signify Luis hitting the target 500 times and integrated into the footbed of the boot are the colors of each of the teams Luis has represented throughout his career.

Breaking the record is an individual honor, but I could never have achieved this feat alone. My teammates and the fans have been there with me every step of the way. Sport unites people and brings communities together. I hope the donation and the letter can bring a smile to people’s faces. Football has given me so much and I would like to give something back to the people.

Luis’s place in history

Luis is only the fifth active player to reach the 500-goal mark, where he has joined his former team-mate Messi, who sits second on the all-time leaderboard with 759 finishes. With his 500th goal, he became the first Uruguayan player to ever reach the landmark.

The bulk of goals came with Barcelona, where he provided 198 finishes while claiming four league titles and a Champions League crown. The Uruguayan star netted 111 goals during his time in the Netherlands, while he found the back of the net 82 times during his stay at Anfield.

Internationally, Luis has fired 63 goals for Uruguay, while he has also scored 15 for Groningen and 12 for Nacional.
