Celebrating 50 Years of COBRA Golf

April 27, 2023

Happy 50 years of COBRA Golf! In 1973, club designer and former Australian amateur golf champion Thomas Crow founded the small golf company COBRA Golf. Now, 50 years later, COBRA Golf has grown into a technology-rich brand with game-changing equipment. In 2010, PUMA acquired COBRA Golf, taking PUMA further into the golf scene. This year, we celebrate five decades of equipment performance!

“Fifty years is an impressive achievement. Our goal has always been to continue to innovate and create technologies that allow players to better enjoy the game and thus far we’ve been quite successful. We wanted all the Cobra fans out there to be able to celebrate with us which is why we created this beautiful, limited-edition driver.”
– Dan Ladd, President of COBRA PUMA Golf

50 Years of Innovation🏌🏻

1990 – Ultramid Driver

The Ultramid Driver featured a new high-tech plastic developed for the bulletproof vest industry to increase impact strength and shock absorption. John Daly used the Ultramid to lead the tour in driving distance and capture his first Major victory at the 1991 PGA Championship.

1996 – COBRA Ti Driver

The King Cobra Ti Driver was a part of COBRA’s first titanium line of woods. It featured a revolutionary autoclave system strengthening the graphite shafts to guarantee the highest quality through state-of-the-art technology.

1997 – Deep Face Driver

Famous for being used in a historic victory at the Masters in 1997. The King COBRA Deep Face Driver has a place in history featuring a steel head and classic design; the Deep Face Driver is known for its great looks and stellar performance.

2006 – X Speed

The 18th Hole at Winged Foot Golf Club featured an only 24 yards wide landing area for players to hit driver into. But, unlike his fellow competitors, Geoff Ogilvy saved his best drive for last, piping the Cobra X Speed Driver down the center of the fairway, which would later make the difference in winning his first US Open Title.

2015 – LTD Driver

With the help of The Center for Advancement of Science in Space (CASIS), COBRA Golf completed a materials science research study at the international space station to develop the KING LTD Driver. The research allowed Cobra to create a Space Port in the back of the driver designed to lower CG and maintain forgiveness. The driver represented the continued pursuit of innovation and COBRA’s willingness to leave no stone unturned to help make the golfer better.

2018 – F9 SPEEDBACK

The COBRA KING F9 SPEEDBACK flashed its dominant speed helping COBRA athletes to 4 tour wins between November and February of the 2018-2019 seasons. The F9 Driver has since become a cult classic in the golfing community and remains an iconic Driver that helped establish COBRA as a serious contender in the Metal woods category.

2023 – AEROJET

Built using feedback from the fastest players in the world, the Aerojet Driver used an advanced aerodynamic design to help golfers pursuit new levels of speed.
