PUMA Athlete Karsten Warholm wins European Athlete of the Year award
PUMA Athlete Karsten Warholm was named men’s European Athlete of the Year at the Golden Tracks awards last night. It’s the third time Karsten has won a prize at the Golden Tracks ceremony.
Karsten previously was named Rising Star in 2017 before becoming men’s European Athlete of the Year for the first time in 2019. Other athletes who were shortlisted for the award included PUMA’s pole vault star Armand “Mondo” Duplantis.
Karsten has had an exceptional season this year, which culminated in his gold winning performance in Tokyo in the 400m hurdles. In that race, he also set a new World Record of 45.94 seconds.
“He is still only 25, is there anything this man can’t do?” the European Athletics Account said on its official Instragram channel.
From all of us at PUMA, congratulations on winning this award, Karsten!

PUMA athlete Mondo Duplantis crowned 2020 World Athlete of the Year
He truly is born to fly! Our PUMA athlete Armand “Mondo” Duplantis was named the world track and field athlete of the year at the World Athletics Awards on the weekend.
The 21-year-old became the youngest man and first Swede to win this prestigious athletics award. The virtual event by World Athletics took place on Saturday 5 December and was streamed live on their YouTube channel. You can watch the whole ceremony here. All in all, eight awards were presented.
One of those awards was the President’s Award that went to Dr. Tommie Smith, Mr. Peter Norman and Dr. John Carlos, for inspiring athletes around the world with their silent gestures at the Olympic Games of Mexico City 1968, which still resonates today.
Before crowning Mondo as Male Athlete of the Year, a three-way voting process took place – split between the World Athletics Council, the World Athletics Family, and the worldwide community of athletics fans.
A WELL DESERVED WIN
Mondo was on fire in 2020. The Swedish pole vaulter scaled new heights in 2020 – breaking the world record twice in a week in February (6.17m and 6.18m) before producing the highest outdoor vault in history (6.15m) in September.
