PUMA AND LIBERTY CELEBRATE STRONG WOMEN

September 18, 2021

We are partnering with the iconic design house and department store Liberty for the first time to bring a luxe touch to a streetwear collection. It has a truly feminine aesthetic and was created to celebrate strong women. The collection includes a wide range of both fashion and training footwear, apparel, and accessories. Embroidery and vibrant colors add a bold and feminine touch to PUMA’s footwear styles; the selection includes the Wild Rider, Basket, Cruise Rider, Suede Mayu, and for training, the Forever XT. The apparel items expand beyond PUMA’s classic silhouettes, with unique pieces like a reversible kimono, a flowy floral dress, and a performance leotard. The accessories offer a subtle touch of floral for any look with a cap, shopping bag, and mini purse offering. The collection look book and campaign images were shot on an all-female crew, profiling bold and confident women from across a variety of fields to celebrate their success, each in their own unique look. Check out the look book and interview!

Using bold visuals and bright colors, the PUMA x LIBERTY collaboration flips the soft connotation of florals for a collection that reflects the strength of the wildflower and today’s fearless, powerful and creative women. The collection look book was shot on an all-female crew, profiling bold and confident women from across a variety of fields to celebrate their success, each in their own unique look. During the shoot, we asked this female crew their thoughts on who inspires them, the key to always growing, and what makes them feel unstoppable.

  • Coumba, Founder of XYZZY Collective, working in the crossroads of art and sciences for the betterment of society. Model whose style is not limited to any rules.

  • Chi Virgo, Musician and influencer with a unique stance.

Who inspires you to defy the odds?

Emma: I think women, black women, indigenous people, people of color, queer people, everyone in the LGBTQ community. Everyone paving the way for a brighter future, those people inspire me.

Fisayo: When I was in secondary school one of my friends was in a plane crash and she was one of two survivors. She was a finalist in America’s Got Talent and is now a recording artist. I really admire not only her physical strength but also her emotional strength and her ambition.

Michaela: Right now, it’s Miss Lauryn Hill. When she was around my age, she had this huge paradigm shift where she just abandoned everything that everyone loved about her to present a true version of herself. That’s what I want to do.

Coumba: My friends and close people around me because of their character and the way they choose to live life.

Tori: That would be Owen Hurcum who is now the first non-binary mayor.

Chi: Definitely my mom, just based on where she comes from and where she is now, she’s definitely defied the odds.

What is success to you?

Emma: Someone once told me that success is never a mistake, it’s no accident. If you work hard persevere, do what you love, and make sure you’re constantly learning and growing and educating yourself to be better at your craft, success is inevitable. The journey might take a long time, but no one ever sees the struggles before you succeed.

Fisayo: Success to me is peace of mind. Peace of mind to me is just the absence of fear and worry. For me that involves financial freedom, healthy relationships, and just happiness and realizing my biggest goals.

Michaela: It’s being able to look at my life and see the things that are already good and cherish them.

Coumba: Reaching a point in your life where you are just comfortable with who you are.

Tori: Everyone always defines success as some sort of financial gain, but for me it’s how much joy something gives me.

Chi: Success is feeling genuine happiness and contentment and having genuine love in your heart.

What’s your piece of life advice to everyone?

Emma: I don’t really give advice, but if there’s anything I’ve learned over the past year or two, it’s that vulnerability is not about winning or losing, it’s just having the courage to show up. Even if things don’t really go your way or if you have no control over a situation, just have courage to show up.

Fisayo: My piece of life advice is do what you want to do in the depths of your heart, because at the end of the day it’s your life. No one else is going to be responsible for whether you did what you wanted to do. Just listen to yourself and do what you want to do.

Michaela: It’s okay not to be okay.

Coumba: To not take yourself too seriously.

Tori: Just be you.

Chi: Lead with love.

What does liberty mean to you?

Emma: Freedom…right? I don’t know, we’re not free! That’s the harsh truth but I think liberty to me is having the strength and courage to be yourself. If you’re free with yourself you’re free with everyone else. I probably stole that from somewhere to be honest (laughs).

Fisayo: Liberty to me represents like the beauty in struggle. I actually used to work at Liberty about six years ago, and so when I go into the store and when I think about liberty, I just think of how far a person can come when they stay true to themselves and chase their goals.

Michaela: Being able to act on a freedom.

Coumba: Freedom.

Tori: Freedom.

Chi: Genuine freedom, without any restrictions, without feeling intimidated or judged.
