Michael Schumacher’s Enduring Legacy
The F1 Legend managed the unthinkable while staying true to himself

He rewrote almost every standing record. But Michael – while becoming a sporting great – managed to stay human. Ahead of the Monza Grand Prix, we take a look at his triumphs, his journey with Scuderia Ferrari, and how a special edition collection honours his legacy.
The year the records fell
2004 was Michael’s most successful season – and an unforgettable journey for every F1 fan. He won an unmatched 7th Driver’s Championship, having triumphed in 13 out of 18 races, surpassing a record he had previously set himself.He finished the season with an impressive 148 points, 34 points clear of the second-placed driver, under the points system at that time, which awarded 10 points for a race win. Under today’s scoring system, with 25 points for a win, that would equate to a remarkable total of 367 points. Together with this teammate Rubens Barrichello, PUMA driver Michael also secured the Constructor’s Championship title for Scuderia Ferrari.
“It was an absolutely overwhelming feeling for all of us,” recalls Helmut Fischer, founder of the PUMA Archive and known as Mr. PUMA.

It was clear that Michael, with Scuderia Ferrari, had firmly outclassed his opponents and peers. But it hadn’t always been that way.
A meteoric rise to the top
Michael’s move to Scuderia Ferrari did not initially seem promising. The racing team hadn’t claimed a Constructors’ Championship since 1983, and a Driver’s Championship since 1979. But the drought of titles was set to end.Michael left Benetton in 1996 to sign with Scuderia Ferrari, and together they won the Constructors’ Championship every single year from 1999 to 2004. From 2000 to 2004, he won five consecutive driver’s championships with Scuderia Ferrari. PUMA, which had entered Formula 1 in 2001, was happy and proud to be part of that success.
An enduring legacy; a likeable guy
Somewhere along the way, Michael probably stopped counting the many titles he claimed during his career. Over his career, he set records for most championships, race victories, consecutive podium finishes, fastest laps, pole positions and races won in a single season – that legendary 13 in 2004.But even though some of the records would eventually be broken, his legacy seems much bigger. Fans watching from the stands or at home got a sense of him as a human being: genuine, kind, committed.

Carrying the drive to Monza
That enduring spirit took centre stage in Milan ahead of the Monza Grand Prix 2026. PUMA and Peroni hosted an exclusive evening at the historic Palazzo Reale, celebrating Michael’s transformative impact.Michael’s method of pursuing excellence through precision and discipline still runs through the team today. Recognising this, PUMA and Scuderia Ferrari HP have released the Monza Limited Edition in tribute to his first season in red. Designed with vintage aesthetic references to his 1996 suit and its era, the collection bridges that defining legacy with the present.
More than a decade later, Michael’s legacy continues to drive Scuderia Ferrari HP, shaping the team both today and into the future.
