July 26, 2023

Last Thursday, July 20th, the first games of the Women’s World Cup kicked off in Australia and New Zealand. With two PUMA teams, 88 PUMA Athletes and 107 pairs of PUMA Football boots on the pitch, our PUMA’s started the tournament off strong. We gathered the first match day stats after the first round of matches.

Morocco Make History 🇲🇦

The 2023 Women’s World Cup marks the first time Morocco has ever played in the tournament! Not only is this a huge achievement for the country and female players, it also highlights the first time an Arab or North African country has ever competed in the tournament. After a tough match, Morocco unfortunately lost their first match against Germany 6-0.

First Win for Switzerland 🇨🇭

Switzerland came into the tournament with power as they secured their first win of the tournament against the Philippines, with a 2-0 victory. Both goals came from PUMA players! Ramona Bachmann claimed the first with a penalty, and Seraina Piubel secured the win with her goal later on.

A killer corner kick from Sherida made for an important assist in securing the Netherlands 1-0 win over Portugal.
