PUMA’s journey to be FOREVER. BETTER.

2023 was a year of new perspectives, partnerships, and highlights. Above all, it was a year with a strong focus on sustainability.
March 6, 2024
In 2023 PUMA’s FOREVER. BETTER. journey gained momentum. In the RE:SUEDE project, we turned an experimental version of our iconic SUEDE sneakers into compost under certain tailor-made industrial conditions. Through RE:FIBRE, we showcased the process behind turning waste old textiles into new textiles and through our Voices of a RE:GENERATION initiative, young changemakers continued to challenge us to do BETTER.

Take a look at what PUMA has been up to in 2023:

“Some of my most rewarding time was listening to our Voices of a RE:GENERATION share their perspectives about how PUMA can improve and incorporating their input into our planning.”
Anne-Laure Descours, Chief Sourcing Officer at PUMA
In 2023 our Voices of a RE:GENERATION Andrew Burgess, Aishwarya Sharma, Luke Jaque-Rodney and Jade Roche educated, engaged, and co-created with PUMA through a range of projects to help PUMA to communicate sustainability in a way that resonates with their generation and addresses the things that matter to them and their future.

Andrew took a deep dive into PUMA’s RE:FIBRE, programme and created his own one-off capsule collection using custom printed RE:FIBRE fabric called: PUMA x VIVID VISIONS. Luke and Jade visited some of our manufacturing partners in Vietnam and Bangladesh and will share their experience through documentaries that will launch soon.

In 2024 Aishwarya Sharma will focus on a new project in collaboration with PUMA. Stay tuned for more details coming soon.

On track to achieve our 10FOR25 Targets

In 2023:

  • We reached our Human Rights target ahead of 2025 by training more than 220,000 factory workers on women’s empowerment and completely mapping subcontractors and Tier 2 suppliers for human rights risks. We’ve also completed 57.000 hours of global community engagement.

  • We reached the Plastics and the Oceans target, eliminating plastic carrier bags from PUMA’s owned and operated stores, provided support for scientific research on microfibres and researched biodegradable plastic options.

  • 8 out of 10 PUMA products made withrecycled or certified materials. PUMA also scaled up the use of recycled materials, and announced that starting 2024, all of PUMA’s replica football jerseys will be made from textile waste using PUMA’s RE:FIBRE recycling technology which focuses on textile waste as the primary source of material.

Check out our performance against all our 10FOR25 targets here.
