Tuve que aprender que el \u00e9xito nunca est\u00e1 garantizado. Y que no hay que definirse por el oro. El deporte no es amable, pero es honesto. Si aprendes a afrontarlo, aprendes a afrontar la vida.<br><br><strong>Jonathan Edwards:<\/strong> Los momentos m\u00e1s formativos vinieron del atletismo. Durante mi carrera, yo funcionaba. S\u00f3lo entonces descubres si eres realmente resistente: si te levantas tras una derrota, si sigues adelante despu\u00e9s de una lesi\u00f3n, si sigues creyendo en ti mismo cuando otros no lo hacen. El deporte no es justo. Tampoco lo es la vida. La resistencia no es un superpoder, es una mentalidad.<br><br><strong>Jonathan:<\/strong> La resiliencia se ha convertido en una palabra de moda. Antes, la gente se limitaba a decir: \"Sigue adelante\". Pero detr\u00e1s de eso hay un sistema de valores: no rendirse, volver a levantarse, ayudar a los dem\u00e1s, seguir adelante, incluso cuando duele. Y no es algo que se construye solo. Crece a trav\u00e9s de la conexi\u00f3n, a trav\u00e9s de la comunidad. Mirando atr\u00e1s, dir\u00eda: No nac\u00ed resiliente. Me hice resiliente.<\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"col articleText\">\n        <div ><span class=\"interviewq\"><strong>Cuando echa la vista atr\u00e1s, \u00bfrecuerda m\u00e1s los mejores momentos o el trabajo duro?<\/strong><\/span><strong>Colin:<\/strong> El trabajo duro fue la base, pero mirando atr\u00e1s, son los momentos en los que todo encaja los que se quedan conmigo. Cuando tu cuerpo responde, tu mente est\u00e1 en calma, tu ritmo es el correcto. Son fracciones de segundo, pero inolvidables. El camino era brutal. A veces corr\u00eda solo por la nieve en Cardiff. Pero lo haces por ese momento. Y cuando llega, el dolor desaparece.<br><br><strong>Jonathan:<\/strong> Recuerdo ambas cosas, pero de forma diferente. Los momentos culminantes son como faros: mi r\u00e9cord mundial, la medalla de oro. Pero el trabajo que hay detr\u00e1s es el suelo que pisas. Y a veces lo echo de menos. La claridad. La sencillez de ser atleta, sin caos ni sobrecarga. Ahora la vida es m\u00e1s compleja. El cuerpo cambia. La t\u00e9cnica evoluciona. T\u00fa cambias y tienes que adaptar constantemente tu entrenamiento. Lo que me motivaba nunca era pensar en las medallas, sino el af\u00e1n de superaci\u00f3n.<br><br><strong>Colin:<\/strong> Para m\u00ed, era la disciplina. Era muy estructurado: rutinas fijas, poco margen de maniobra. No creo en la motivaci\u00f3n como requisito previo, sino en la preparaci\u00f3n. Si ten\u00eda que estar en la pista a las 7:30, estaba all\u00ed a las 7:20. Siempre. Siempre. Pero tambi\u00e9n lo sab\u00eda: no puedes controlarlo todo, y ah\u00ed es donde entra en juego la adaptabilidad. A veces estaba f\u00edsicamente en mi mejor momento, pero emocionalmente agotado. Te entrenas como un loco, rindes muy bien en los entrenamientos... y luego llega la gran carrera y no puedes rendir. Lo que me mantuvo en pie fue mi rutina.<br><br><strong>Jonathan:<\/strong> A menudo me pon\u00eda muy nervioso antes de las competiciones. Esa voz interior diciendo: No eres lo suficientemente bueno. Vas a fracasar. Nunca pens\u00e9: Voy a ganar. Pero con el tiempo aprend\u00ed que esos pensamientos forman parte de m\u00ed, no son mis enemigos. Y lo supe: cuando est\u00e9 al final de la pista, cumplir\u00e9. El momento en s\u00ed sol\u00eda ser muy claro.<\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"col articleText\">\n        <div ><strong><span class=\"interviewq\">\u00bfSu retirada del deporte de competici\u00f3n fue una ruptura definitiva o m\u00e1s bien una transici\u00f3n gradual? \u00bfFue dif\u00edcil dejarlo?<\/span>Colin:<\/strong> Para el mundo exterior, parec\u00eda una ruptura limpia. Yo segu\u00eda compitiendo en el verano de 2002 y, de repente, me plant\u00e9 en la pista con un micr\u00f3fono, mientras Jonathan segu\u00eda saltando. Recuerdo claramente ese momento: traje, micr\u00f3fono... pero por dentro, era un proceso. La identidad que has construido durante d\u00e9cadas no desaparece de la noche a la ma\u00f1ana. Algunos d\u00edas, s\u00f3lo deseaba volver a entrenar. Sin micr\u00f3fono, sin medios de comunicaci\u00f3n, sin dudas.<br><br><strong>Jonathan:<\/strong> Me siento muy identificada. Ten\u00eda 37 a\u00f1os, lo hab\u00eda conseguido todo y una lesi\u00f3n me dijo: se acab\u00f3. Pensaba seguir hasta 2004. Lo que me ayud\u00f3 fue la perspectiva: la BBC mostr\u00f3 inter\u00e9s, yo pod\u00eda seguir en el juego, s\u00f3lo que en un papel diferente. Luego lleg\u00f3 la candidatura ol\u00edmpica de Londres. No ca\u00ed en un agujero, y estoy agradecido por ello. Pero s\u00ed, de repente se hizo el silencio. Me llev\u00e9 mucho conmigo: disciplina, estructura, preparaci\u00f3n. Pero tuve que adquirir nuevas habilidades. Por ejemplo, hablar ante grandes audiencias. Hablar libremente, sin gui\u00f3n, delante de las c\u00e1maras. Yo era un atleta, no un orador. Tuve que aprenderlo desde cero. Si quieres algo nuevo, tienes que evolucionar.<br><br><strong>Jonathan:<\/strong> Como atleta, est\u00e1s constantemente perfeccion\u00e1ndote: escuchando a los entrenadores, analizando la t\u00e9cnica, trabajando en los detalles. Llevaba conmigo esa mentalidad, la de no saberlo todo, pero estar dispuesto a aprender. Nunca sent\u00ed que tuviera que reinventarme. That inner voice saying: You\\u0026rsquo;re not good enough. You\\u0026rsquo;ll fail. I never thought: I\\u0026rsquo;m going to win this. But over time, I learned: these thoughts are part of me \\u0026ndash; not my enemy. And I knew: once I\\u0026rsquo;m at the end of the runway \\u0026ndash; I\\u0026rsquo;ll deliver. The moment itself was usually very clear.\",\"contentRight\":\"\\u0026lt;strong\\u0026gt;\\u0026lt;span class=\\u0026quot;interviewq\\u0026quot;\\u0026gt;Was your retirement from competitive sport a clean break \\u0026ndash; or more of a gradual transition? I was still competing in summer 2002 \\u0026ndash; then suddenly standing trackside with a mic, while Jonathan was still jumping. I remember that moment clearly: suit, microphone \\u0026ndash; but inside, it was a process. The identity you\\u0026rsquo;ve built over decades doesn\\u0026rsquo;t vanish overnight. Some days, I just wished I could train again. No mic, no media, no doubts.\\u0026lt;br\\u0026gt;\\u0026lt;br\\u0026gt;\\u0026lt;strong\\u0026gt;Jonathan:\\u0026lt;\/strong\\u0026gt; I can completely relate. I was 37, had achieved everything \\u0026ndash; and had an injury that told me: this is it. I\\u0026rsquo;d actually planned to continue until 2004. What helped was perspective: the BBC showed interest, I could stay in the game \\u0026ndash; just in a different role. Then came London\\u0026rsquo;s Olympic bid \\u0026ndash; that was huge. I didn\\u0026rsquo;t fall into a hole, and I\\u0026rsquo;m grateful for that. But yes \\u0026ndash; suddenly, there was silence.
