We caught up with Vladimir Gorobets, General Manager of PUMA Russia and Ukraine, to talk about his career, the peculiarities of PUMA\\u2019s business in those countries as well as well as his vision for the future.\\nAt first sight, Russia and Ukraine are not difficult markets. \\u201cOur favorite shoe is the ST Runner in a triple black colorway,\\u201d Vladimir smiles. \\u201cNothing dramatic: simple, stylish, black and practical.\\u201d The long winters in both countries also require a solid line-up of winterized outfits.\\nBut that where it stops being simple. In order to push high-end products to customers, you have to set up your own retail infrastructure, which is exactly what Vladimir did during his more than 15 years at PUMA.\\nWhen Vladimir was 24, he joined PUMA in his native Ukraine, where he took on the project of establishing owned-and-operated retail stores in the country. \\u201cWhen I started in Ukraine, we had one store,\\u201d Vladimir recalls. In just 3 years\\u2019 time, Vladimir and his team opened 20 PUMA shops in the country.\\nFollowing his success in Ukraine, Vladimir joined the PUMA Russia team as Head of Retail. \\u201cWhen I came to Russia, retail was about 35 percent of the business, five years later it was 50\\\/50, now retail is the majority of the business,\\u201d he says \\u2013 an impressive track record which eventually saw him get promoted to GM of Russia and Ukraine. But Vladimir says that career planning was never the thing that made him get up in the morning.\\n\\u201cTo be honest, I focused on what was right for the brand. I didn\\u2019t think much about career planning. Cuando se incorpor\u00f3 a PUMA Rusia en 2010, se le encomend\u00f3 dar un giro al negocio y construir una plataforma de crecimiento sostenible. \u201c<strong>Al principio estaba muy motivada y me puse expectativas poco realistas, sobre todo para m\u00ed misma.<\/strong>,explica.<br\/>\n<br\/>Trabajar m\u00e1s de 12 horas diarias, tambi\u00e9n los fines de semana, empez\u00f3 a pasar factura a su cuerpo. Empez\u00f3 a sentirse agotado, tanto f\u00edsica como mentalmente.<br\/>\n<br\/>\u201c<strong>Ignoraba el simple hecho de que descansar bien es una parte importante del ejercicio de entrenamiento, tanto para los deportistas como para los directivos.<\/strong>,recuerda. \u201d<strong>Lo mejor que hice fue hablar con mi jefe. Enseguida comprendi\u00f3 que estaba a punto de quemarme y me aconsej\u00f3 que me tomara un descanso.<\/strong>.\u201d<br\/>\n<br\/>Apenas ocho meses despu\u00e9s de que Vladimir se convirtiera en Director General de Rusia y Ucrania, la pandemia golpe\u00f3 y oblig\u00f3 a cerrar ambos mercados. Muchas de las tiendas por las que Vladimir hab\u00eda trabajado tan duro tuvieron que cerrar de un d\u00eda para otro.<br\/>\n<br\/>\u201c<strong>Nadie por ah\u00ed sab\u00eda c\u00f3mo hacer frente a ese tipo de situaci\u00f3n<\/strong>,\u201d, afirma Vladimir. En su opini\u00f3n, la clave del \u00e9xito de PUMA fue tomarse en serio los retos de la pandemia desde el primer d\u00eda y proteger a los clientes y al personal, al tiempo que se trabajaba duro para mantener el negocio en marcha. En tiempos de incertidumbre, tambi\u00e9n era importante comunicar con claridad y ser transparentes, manteniendo al mismo tiempo ese esp\u00edritu de \u201cForever Faster\u201d para reaccionar con rapidez ante una situaci\u00f3n siempre cambiante.<br\/>\n<br\/>\u201c<strong>Al atravesar esta crisis, qued\u00e9 impresionado, ya que vi muchos ejemplos de verdadero liderazgo, compromiso e incluso hero\u00edsmo en mi equipo local y en los equipos de todo el mundo. \u00a1La gente que me rodeaba me motiv\u00f3 mucho!<\/strong>\u201d dice Vladimir.<br\/>\n<br\/>Y esta actitud dio sus frutos. A pesar de la pandemia, PUMA aument\u00f3 fuertemente sus ventas tanto en Rusia como en Ucrania durante 2020 y arrebat\u00f3 cuota de mercado a sus competidores.<br\/>\n<br\/>A largo plazo, Vladimir cree que posicionar claramente a PUMA como marca deportiva contribuir\u00e1 a aumentar la credibilidad de la marca entre los consumidores.<br\/>\n<br\/>Para lograrlo, PUMA impuls\u00f3 su presencia en el f\u00fatbol, asoci\u00e1ndose con el campe\u00f3n de f\u00fatbol ucraniano, el Shakhtar Donetsk. \u201c<strong>Al principio, nuestra presencia en el f\u00fatbol ucraniano era nula. Por eso, asociarnos con uno de los mejores equipos del pa\u00eds fue una gran noticia para nuestra zona\".<\/strong>,dice Vladimir.<br\/>\n<br\/>En Rusia, PUMA tambi\u00e9n ha ido aumentando su cartera de clubes, anunciando recientemente un acuerdo con el Dinamo de Mosc\u00fa, un club con una larga y exitosa historia y muchos seguidores comprometidos y leales. El a\u00f1o que viene, cinco de los 16 equipos de la primera divisi\u00f3n rusa estar\u00e1n equipados por PUMA: el Dinamo, el Krasnodar, el Khimki, el Rostov y el Krylia Sovetov, que ascender\u00e1 la pr\u00f3xima temporada.<br\/>\n<br\/>\u00bfCu\u00e1l es el futuro de PUMA en Rusia y Ucrania? \u00bfD\u00f3nde \u201cs\u00f3lo vemos lo grande\u201d?<br\/>\n<br\/>\u201c<strong>En general, veo una fuerte tendencia hacia estilos de vida m\u00e1s sanos y deportivos en todas partes. En s\u00f3lo 3 a\u00f1os, Vladimir y su equipo abrieron 20 tiendas PUMA en el pa\u00eds.\nTras su \u00e9xito en Ucrania, Vladimir se uni\u00f3 al equipo de PUMA Rusia como Director de Retail. \u2019Cuando llegu\u00e9 a Rusia, el comercio minorista representaba alrededor del 35% del negocio, cinco a\u00f1os m\u00e1s tarde era el 50%, y ahora el comercio minorista es la mayor parte del negocio\u201c, afirma.
