September 2021 <\/div>\n\n        <div id=\"\" class=\"headerSocialIconsMobile tcenter mobile\">\n            <a class=\"sharing\" id=\"mobileshare\" onclick='navigator.share({ \"title\": &quot;How PUMA makes its packaging and retail supplies more sustainable&quot;, \"text\": &quot;The shoeboxes you see in our stores today look the same as they always have, red, green or black, but now they have a secret: They use significantly less cardboard than they did before.\\nAs part of its 10FOR25 targets, PUMA is looking at the environmental footprint of the company as a whole and aims to embed sustainability into all of our products to make a positive impact at scale. Better packaging is part of that journey.\\n\\u201cWe took a holistic look at the design of our shoeboxes, and we realized that we were using too much material,\\u201d said Jordan Eichenberger, Head of Labelling and Packaging at PUMA Group Sourcing.\\nJordan and his team started a redesign of the boxes and looked for ways to reduce the amount of material used, while keeping the boxes just as sturdy as before.\\nBy using less material in our shoeboxes, we save 2800 tonnes of cardboard per year. If we consider that it takes about 12 trees for a tonne of cardboard, reducing the weight of the shoe boxes has saved 33600 trees \\u2013 more trees than in New York\\u2019s Central Park.\\nBut we are even going one step further, as the cardboard boxes are made of more than 95 % (by weight) recycled cardboard.\\nAs a part of our 10FOR25 strategy, we will also eliminate consumer-facing plastic bags from our owned and operated stores and, wherever possible, make our retail supplies more sustainable.\\nOur consumer-facing plastic bags are already made of 80% recycled content but in 2021, we cut their use in half. To put it into numbers, that is 200 tonnes of plastic we did not use.\\nBut we will not stop there. While we have already eliminated consumer-facing plastic bags from our owned and operated stores in countries such as China and India, we will stop using such plastic bags anywhere in the world by 2023.\\nInstead, PUMA will only use recycled and FSC-certified paper bags in its stores, no matter whether you shop in Herzogenaurach, on Fifth Avenue or in Krasnoyarsk.\\nThe switch to more sustainable alternatives for our shoppers wasn\\u2019t without challenges, as Martina Lagler, Senior Teamhead Global Retail Business Development, explains.\\n\\u201cIn general, recycled paper is not as durable as plastic, so the development phase was quite a challenge and I am super happy that we are finally able to offer such a high-quality bag.\\u00a0We also had to make sure to have the relevant documents in place to prove full traceability throughout the production supply chain of the material and its recycled content,\\u201d Martina recalls.\\nAnd there is more happening in our stores: Our customers who want to wrap their PUMA purchases for a special someone, will also receive a gift bag made of recycled and FSC-certified paper soon. The bags PUMA uses for shipping online orders will also be made with 100% recycled plastic and we found more sustainable alternatives for the hangers and shoe trees in our stores.\\nOther packaging improvements may be less obvious to PUMA customers, as they are only used to keep our products dry and clean during transport. But the polyethylene bags that protect our apparel and accessories on their way to the store and in warehouses will also be made exclusively from recycled polyethylene by Spring\\\/Summer 2022. Aber auch die Polyethylenbeutel, die unsere Kleidung und Accessoires auf dem Weg in den Laden und in den Lagern sch\u00fctzen, werden ab Fr\u00fchjahr\/Sommer 2022 ausschlie\u00dflich aus recyceltem Polyethylen hergestellt. Wenn man bedenkt, dass f\u00fcr eine Tonne Karton etwa 12 B\u00e4ume ben\u00f6tigt werden, konnten durch die Gewichtsreduzierung der Schuhkartons 33600 B\u00e4ume eingespart werden - mehr B\u00e4ume als im New Yorker Central Park.\nAber wir gehen sogar noch einen Schritt weiter, denn die Kartons bestehen aus mehr als 95 % (nach Gewicht) recyceltem Karton.\nIm Rahmen unserer 10FOR25-Strategie werden wir auch die verbrauchernahen Plastikt\u00fcten aus unseren eigenen und von uns betriebenen Gesch\u00e4ften verbannen und, wo immer m\u00f6glich, unsere Einzelhandelslieferungen nachhaltiger gestalten.\nUnsere verbraucherseitigen Plastikt\u00fcten bestehen bereits aus 80% recyceltem Material, aber im Jahr 2021 werden wir ihre Verwendung um die H\u00e4lfte reduzieren. In Zahlen ausgedr\u00fcckt sind das 200 Tonnen Kunststoff, die wir nicht verwendet haben.\nAber wir werden nicht dabei stehen bleiben. W\u00e4hrend wir in unseren eigenen und von uns betriebenen Gesch\u00e4ften in L\u00e4ndern wie China und Indien bereits keine Plastikt\u00fcten mehr verwenden, werden wir bis 2023 \u00fcberall auf der Welt keine Plastikt\u00fcten mehr verwenden.\nStattdessen wird PUMA in seinen Gesch\u00e4ften nur noch recycelte und FSC-zertifizierte Papiert\u00fcten verwenden, ganz gleich, ob Sie in Herzogenaurach, auf der Fifth Avenue oder in Krasnojarsk einkaufen.\nDie Umstellung auf nachhaltigere Alternativen f\u00fcr unsere Kunden war nicht ohne Herausforderungen, wie Martina Lagler, Senior Teamhead Global Retail Business Development, erkl\u00e4rt.\n\"Die Entwicklungsphase war also eine ziemliche Herausforderung, und ich bin sehr froh, dass wir nun endlich eine so hochwertige Tasche anbieten k\u00f6nnen. Wir mussten auch sicherstellen, dass wir \u00fcber die entsprechenden Dokumente verf\u00fcgten, um die vollst\u00e4ndige R\u00fcckverfolgbarkeit des Materials und seines Recyclinganteils \u00fcber die gesamte Produktionskette hinweg zu gew\u00e4hrleisten\", erinnert sich Martina.\nUnd in unseren Gesch\u00e4ften passiert noch mehr: Unsere Kunden, die ihre PUMA-Eink\u00e4ufe f\u00fcr einen besonderen Menschen einpacken m\u00f6chten, erhalten demn\u00e4chst auch eine Geschenkt\u00fcte aus recyceltem und FSC-zertifiziertem Papier. Die T\u00fcten, die PUMA f\u00fcr den Versand von Online-Bestellungen verwendet, werden ebenfalls aus 100% recyceltem Kunststoff hergestellt und wir haben nachhaltigere Alternativen f\u00fcr die Kleiderb\u00fcgel und Schuhspanner in unseren Gesch\u00e4ften gefunden.\nAndere Verpackungsverbesserungen sind f\u00fcr PUMA-Kunden vielleicht weniger offensichtlich, da sie nur dazu dienen, unsere Produkte w\u00e4hrend des Transports trocken und sauber zu halten. Aber auch die Polyethylenbeutel, die unsere Kleidung und Accessoires auf dem Weg zum Gesch\u00e4ft und in den Lagern sch\u00fctzen, werden ab Fr\u00fchjahr\/Sommer 2022 ausschlie\u00dflich aus recyceltem Polyethylen hergestellt.
