In England, der Wiege des Fu\u00dfballs, trugen die Spieler anfangs Arbeits- oder Milit\u00e4rstiefel, um das Spiel zu spielen. Sie waren hochgeschnitten, schwer, aus Leder gefertigt und mit festgenagelten Stollen versehen. Ihr Hauptzweck war Schutz und Halt. \u201cUnd nat\u00fcrlich waren sie schwer \u2013 man hatte wirklich etwa ein halbes Kilo Schuh am Fu\u00df.\u201d Bei Regen und Schlamm wurden sie schnell noch schwerer.<br><br>Dieses Prinzip hielt sich lange Zeit. Von den ersten Fu\u00dfballschuhen des sp\u00e4ten 19. Jahrhunderts bis in die 1940er Jahre \u00e4nderte sich kaum etwas. Der gro\u00dfe Wandel begann in den 1950er Jahren. Als PUMA 1950 seinen ATOM auf den Markt brachte, sorgte das f\u00fcr eine kleine Sensation. Der Schuh wog etwa 300 Gramm. \u201cWo immer Material eingespart werden konnte, wurde es eingespart\u201d, sagt Tung. Beim Leder, bei der Sohle, bei der Konstruktion, bei der H\u00f6he des Schafts. Die Spieler konnten den Schuh nun an den Untergrund anpassen: nasses Gras, trockenes Gras, weicher Boden. Er griff fr\u00fchere stabilisierende Elemente wie \u00fcberlappende B\u00e4nder und um den Kn\u00f6chel verlaufende Schn\u00fcrsenkel auf und vereinte sie zu einem dynamischen Element, das dem Schuh seitlichen Halt gab und gleichzeitig einen starken optischen Kontrast schuf. Da Fu\u00dfball im Schwarz-Wei\u00df-Fernsehen immer pr\u00e4senter wurde, spielte auch dies eine Rolle: klare Linien, starker Hell-Dunkel-Kontrast, Wiedererkennbarkeit. Der Schuh wurde beweglicher, der Fu\u00df konnte sich nat\u00fcrlicher bewegen. 1966 kam der PUMA KING auf den Markt \u2013 und wurde schlie\u00dflich von Fu\u00dfballg\u00f6ttern wie Eus\u00e9bio, Pel\u00e9, Johan Cruyff, Diego Maradona und Lothar Matth\u00e4us getragen.
